Aespa Makes Remarkable Debut at Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival, known for its glamour and prestige, witnessed an unexpected presence this year with the debut of several K-pop stars. Among them, Aespa, the four-member girl band from SM Entertainment, left an indelible mark.

Aespa made their first appearance on the red carpet of the renowned French film festival, accompanying the screening of “The Pot-Au-Feu,” a competition title at Palais des Festivals. This marked a groundbreaking moment as the first-ever full K-pop group to attend the international film festival.

As official ambassadors of luxury jewelry house Chopard, Aespa adorned themselves with dazzling Chopard jewelry, captivating the spotlight in their elegant black and white gowns. The arrival of the quartet generated excitement among the buzzing crowd, with passionate fans celebrating the moment alongside them.

Chopard, a longstanding partner of the Cannes film fest, extended the invitation to Aespa to attend various events and parties during the 76th Cannes festival.

Aespa, composed of Karina, Winter, NingNing, and Giselle, made their debut in November 2020 with the smash-hit single “Black Mamba.” Their subsequent releases, including “Next Level,” “Savage,” “Girls,” and “Spicy,” achieved chart-topping success.

Their latest album, “My World,” led by the title song “Spicy,” broke records, selling a remarkable 1.69 million copies in its first week—the highest ever for a K-pop girl group. Within two weeks, it surpassed the milestone of 2 million units sold.

Aespa’s achievements have garnered attention, earning them a spot on Billboard’s “K-Pop Star to Watch” list and Forbes’ “Forbes 30 under 30 Asia 2023.”

In August, the group is poised to make history with a special edition of their world tour, “Synk: Hyper Line,” debuting at Tokyo Dome.

Notably, other K-pop artists like Blackpink’s Jennie and Rose, Bibi, and f(x) member Krystal Jung also graced the Cannes red carpet this year.
