Similarly, the runner-up of the 2nd edition, Cafe Diem, has recently completed production and already garnered accolades at renowned international festivals.

📜 Rules and Submission Guidelines

1. Submissions

Each participant, as a member of Terafty, can submit up to two scenarios.
Scenarios must revolve around Korea, its culture, or Korea-related themes. While the story doesn’t need to take place in Korea, it should connect to Korea meaningfully.
Submit the scenario in English or Korean. Both languages are welcome.
We define ‘scenarios’ broadly, allowing participants to choose between film scenarios, scripts, or narrative short story formats.
Scenarios should be between 1,000 and 4,000 words.
Submissions are open from December 9th, 2024 to February 21st, 2025

2. Basic Selection Criteria

Creativity: The ability of participants to develop imaginative and unique narratives that stand out in the contest.
Originality: The extent to which submissions present fresh ideas and perspectives.
Theme alignment: How well the entries adhere to and reflect the central Korean theme of the contest.
Engagement potential: How well the story resonates with global audiences.

3. Eligibility:

Participants must register on Terafty’s website.
A valid PayPal account is required to receive the cash prize. Although not our primary method, international bank accounts that can receive USD or EUR are acceptable.

⚖️ Selection Process

The Terafty team will review all entries after the submission period ends.
Up to seven scenarios will be selected as finalists based on specific criteria.
The winner and runner-up will be determined through public voting by the Terafty community and evaluation by Terafty’s expert panel, each contributing 50% to the final decision.

Submission Period: December 9th – February 21st (extended)
Finalist Announcement: March 3rd
Audience Voting Period: March 11th – March 17th
Winner Announcement: March 21st

⚠️ Terms and Conditions (Please read carefully):

By participating, you agree to abide by the contest rules and accept all decisions made by Terafty.
Submissions may be disqualified for rule violations or inappropriate content.
All submissions must be original and must not infringe on third-party rights.
The use of AI in submissions is strictly prohibited. (Notably, several AI-generated entries were disqualified in the previous edition.)
Terafty is not responsible for any technical issues that occur during the contest.
Terafty retains the right to modify or cancel the contest without prior notice.
Winners are solely responsible for any taxes related to prize money.
Personal data will be used exclusively for contest purposes in accordance with Terafty’s privacy policy.
Terafty reserves the right to adapt winning and/or runner-up scenarios for film production.
By participating and submitting your scenario, you acknowledge and agree that if your work is selected as a winner or runner-up, it will become the sole property of Terafty. (This ensures we have full control over the adaptation process, which involves significant creative and production efforts. Refer to past adaptations for insight into the scale of these transformations.)
Terafty’s decisions are final.
If no submission meets the required standards, Terafty may choose not to announce a winner.
For selected scenarios:
– If a winning or runner-up scenario is adapted, it must achieve its crowdfunding goal; otherwise, production may be canceled.
– If not produced by Terafty, we will seek a production team. However, if no interest is shown, the adaptation may not proceed.

📝 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I join the scenario contest if I’m outside of Korea?
Answer: Yes! Anyone from anywhere in the world can join our contest.
In which languages can I submit my scenario?
Answer: You can submit your scenario in either English or Korean.
Can I submit something other than a scenario?
Answer: We prefer scenarios, but we are open to other formats as long as they tell a good story.
Do I need to write a scenario and also help make the film?
Answer: No, you only need to write the scenario. You don’t have to participate in making the film.
What does “Korea-themed” mean?
Answer: Your scenario should be about Korean culture, history, or something related to Korea. It doesn’t have to take place in Korea, but it should have a strong connection to Korean elements.
The guidelines say my scenario should be between 1,000 and 4,000 words. What if I write more or less?
Answer: You can go a little over or under the word count, but we recommend sticking to the range.
How can I become a member of Terafty?
Answer: You can sign up on our website. Just remember to use your registered ID when you submit your scenario.
